What Is Paediatric Audiology?
Paediatric Audiology is a specialised branch of hearing healthcare focused on assessing, diagnosing, and managing hearing concerns in infants, toddlers, and children up to adolescence.
At Adro Hearing Aid Centre, our certified audiologists use age-appropriate, child-friendly techniques to detect hearing issues early—ensuring every child receives the right support during their crucial developmental years.
Why Is Paediatric Hearing Assessment Important?
Early identification of hearing issues is essential for speech, language, learning, and social development. Undiagnosed hearing loss can affect a child’s academic performance, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing.
Paediatric hearing assessments at Adro help:
- Detect hearing loss at the earliest stage
- Assess middle-ear health and rule out infections
- Identify speech and language delays linked to hearing difficulties
- Plan timely interventions, therapy, or hearing-aid support
- Empower parents with accurate information and guidance
How the Test Is Done at Adro
At Adro, every paediatric assessment is conducted in a calm, child-friendly environment using standardised clinical procedures. Depending on the child’s age, we use a combination of the following tests:
Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE)
- For newborns and infants to check cochlear functio
BERA (Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry):
- A neurological test used to measure hearing sensitivity and assess the auditory nerve pathway. Ideal for infants, children who cannot cooperate for behavioural tests, or when more accurate threshold estimation is required.
Tympanometry:
- To assess middle-ear pressure and eardrum movement
Pure Tone Audiometry
- For older children who can follow instructions All assessments are non-invasive and performed by trained audiologists experienced in paediatric care.
Note: OAE & BERA are available only at select Adro centres. Prior appointment is required
Patient Preparation
To ensure smooth and accurate results:
- Bring the child in a calm, well-rested state
- For infants, OAE and BERA are easiest when the child is naturally asleep
- Bring feeding bottles, snacks, toys, or pacifiers as needed
- For toddlers and preschoolers, bring a familiar comfort item
- Carry any previous ENT or medical records
