What Is Pure Tone Audiometry?
PTA is a behavioural hearing test that evaluates your ability to hear sounds at varying volumes and pitches. The results are plotted on an audiogram, which gives a clear picture of whether your hearing is normal or if you have conductive, sensorineural, or mixed hearing loss.
At Adro Hearing Aid Centre, we use advanced, clinically-calibrated audiometers to detect the softest sounds you can hear, helping us understand the nature and degree of your hearing loss with precision
This test is safe, painless, and suitable for children, adults, and seniors.
Why Is PTA Important?
- Helps identify hearing loss early
- Determines the exact level of hearing difficulty
- Guides the selection of appropriate hearing aids
- Assists ENT specialists in diagnosis and medical decision-making
- Monitors hearing health over time
How the Test Is Done at Adro
At Adro, the procedure is carried out by qualified audiologists in a sound-treated room to ensure accuracy.
Step-by-Step Clinic Procedure
Initial Consultation:
- The audiologist reviews your symptoms, medical history, and listening concerns.
Ear Examination:
- A quick otoscopic check is done to ensure your ear canal is clear of wax or infection.
Headphone Placement:
- Special calibrated headphones or insert earphones are placed for air conduction testing.
Pure Tone Testing:
- You will hear a series of beeps at different frequencies. Each time you hear a sound, you press a button or raise your hand.
Bone Conduction Testing:
- A small vibrator behind the ear checks your inner ear function to differentiate the type of hearing loss.
Audiogram Interpretation:
- Results are plotted instantly and explained in simple terms.

- If hearing loss is detected, the audiologist will discuss next steps—hearing aids, ENT referral, or follow-up testing.
